In a sad day for Roma and the South-West of Queensland as a whole, the Roma and District Eisteddfod Committee has taken the step of closing down the commitee and the event. The Roma and District Eisteddfod Committee held their AGM on Thursday, March 3 2011.
Unfortunately the necessary committee positions were unable to be filled and so the decision was taken by the outgoing committee to close the eisteddfod. The eisteddfod was last held in 2009 and it was hoped the event could be revived after taking a break in 2010.
In 2009 the eisteddfod saw almost 1000 young people and young-at-heart people compete in events as diverse as singing, public speaking, dancing, and various instruments. There were so many performers the event ran over seven days and six nights.
The business of the eisteddfod is in care-taker mode. The following people can be contacted: Kevin Johnson [07-4622-3755], Cheryl McDonald [07-4622-2146], and Marie Memory [07-4622-3961] and also through the email address on our "Contact-Us" page.
The Caretaker Committee will meet on the first Thursday in June, September and December in the library, Roma Community Arts Centre, Hawthorne Street, Roma at 5pm.
The Roma & District Eisteddfod caretaker committee will maintain this web site and monitor the email address. The eisteddfod can be revived with a group of like-minded volunteers.
